It is exactly 12 months since the report of the public inquiry into the failings at the Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust was published. The inquiry, led by Robert Francis QC, looked at the role of commissioning, supervisory and regulatory bodies.

290 recommendations were made by which set out a blueprint for the creation of a care system which ensures that the safety, dignity and well-being of patients is paramount.

Arts Council: Strategic Touring programme

This £45 million programme is designed to ensure more people across England are inspired by the arts, particularly in places which rely on touring for much of their arts provision in areas with relatively low levels of participation, and to reach those with little or no current engagement in arts activities. Grants are for above £15,000.

DISABILITY REPORT
*Disability Rights UK are to gather and share good practice on how councils are enabling people with disabilities to be active citizens in their local area. The project is looking at the value that people with disabilities can bring to their local communities and the local economy, such as through volunteering, running businesses and SMEs, being councillors, etc. The project aims to publish a report out in the spring, showing people with disabilities are recognised for what they contribute, rather than just the services they need.

PUBLIC HEALTH
* Public health commissioning for 0-5 year olds will transfer from NHS England to local government on 1 October 2015 it was announced by the Government.
A task and finish group with members from Local Government and wider local government sector led bodies has been set up to take forward discussions on funding and other key issues. Quoted from the LGA newsletter.

*REGIONAL COMMISSIONERS FOR EDUCATION.

include: monitoring performance and intervening to secure improvement in underperforming academies
1.taking decisions on the creation of new academies by approving applications from maintained schools wishing to convert to academy status
2. helping ensure that the sponsor market meets local need – including by authorising applications to become an academy sponsor and recommending suitable sponsors to ministers.
